      Andrew Carroll (born September 27, ) is an American author, editor, playwright, public speaker, nonprofit executive, and historian. He is known as the editor of the New York Times best-sellers Letters of a Nation, Behind the Lines, and War Letters, which later inspired the documentary of the same name. He is also known for seeking out and preserving war-related correspondences Alma mater: Columbia University. Many letters to wives, mothers, sisters, and daughters from soldiers on the Civil War battlefront are preserved for the historical record, while women's letters to soldiers are more challenging to find because they were often lost in the movement of troops and the fury of battle.
